The St. Charles Borromeo Academy Student Council under the direction of the Faculty Moderators Mrs. Abell and Mrs. Davalos assist the Principal and faculty with any school-wide projects, activities around the school and give support in our local community. The Student Council works to build a strong school atmosphere by informing students of the Academy news through our monthly SCBA Newsletter. The students work as a school community with the Family Group K-8 activities that are planned and orchestrated by the Student Council. The Student Council acts as host and hostess as well as a welcoming committee for many of Academy’s meetings, Catholic Schools Week Open House and Grandparent’s Day. The Student Council sells newspapers for Children’s Hospital on Kids News Day. They promote drug awareness with Red Ribbon Week. The Student Council works alongside the PTG to put on the Academy’s Halloween Carnival each year. The Student Council collects food for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. Their famous Valentine’s Day candy gram lollipop sale is always a favorite with all the students.
San Diego Food Bank
The students, along with parent volunteers, make a bi-weekly trek to the San Diego Food Bank to serve the needs of the local community. The children participate in a variety of activities such as school-wide food drives, sorting & boxing food items, bagging produce for distribution to name a few. It is a perfect way to celebrate our Catholic identity and spirit of serving others just as Jesus did.
If you are interested in volunteering to accompany your child’s class, contact the teacher or room parent.
Mass Music Program
Praise Band for grades 5-8
New this year! Students in the upper grades who play an instrument and/or love to sing, are invited to lead music at Mass on the first day of each month.
Band Practice: First Friday of each month on early release days from 12:30-2:00 pm.
The set list for the following month’s First Friday Mass (including charts and links to recordings of the
music) will be distributed and rehearsed. Students have an entire month to practice during music
class at school, at home, and with their instrumental music teacher if they have one. Selected
Musicians must arrive between 7:30 and 7:40 on the first Friday of each month to mass. If we have a large turnout, musicians will take turns leading songs and/or mass dates.
Cantor Choir for grades 2-8
Choir Practice: Mondays after school from 3:00-4:00 pm
I will meet students at drop-off and we will walk over to the church together to practice. Students may be picked up at 4 pm or checked into after school care. Mass: Please arrive to Wednesday masses each week between 7:30-7:40 am.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE MONDAYS WORK? If you absolutely cannot make the Monday practices but would like to be part of the cantor choir on Wednesday mornings, please e-mail me for alternative ways to learn the music and participate. ALL ARE WELCOME.
